Inland Empire Roadrunners storm through Redlands races

The Southern California Roadrunners swept the Run Through Redlands 5k and 10k races despite rain storms before and during the race. Grace Padilla Leong, Erik Gonzalez defended their 2015 titles and Samantha Aguilar won her third consecutive 10k and roadrunner alumni Daniel Cuevas won the 10k division. The last time Cuevas won the 10k he was a senior at Rialto HS.

Aguilar joins fellow Roadrunners Christina Jimenez, Hannah Valenzuela and Claire Graves as multi-winners in the 10k race.

Roadrunners placed well taking the first seven places in the 5k race and 16 runners among the top 30 in the race with 944 finishers. Erik Gonzalez ran a PR for the course for the win with 15:47 with Carlos Delatorre 15:49. Kevin Ramos placed third overall with 16:20. Humberto Guzman won his age group placing fourth overall with 16:41 and 10k Winner Daniel Cuevas doubling back with 16:50 to win his age group in 16:50. Daniel Alvarez placed sixth overall with 17:33 and Jordie Piero running 17:58 for seventh overall. Andres Duran placed 12th overall with 18:40. Alex Miller won his 12-under age group placing 16th overall and Trevor Benson placed 18th. Matt Hornung ran a PR of 20:30 to place 23rd overall. Ten-year-old Aiden Sturtevant placed 38th overall for fifth in the 12-under age group.

Grace Padilla Leong won her second consecutive RTR 5k race with 18:48. Jennifer Lopez, age 11, was third overall with PR of 20:42 for the 5k course. Marissa Crane improved three minutes from 2015 to win the 12-under division with 20:42 followed closely by Caitlin Miller who won the 13-15 age group with 20:45. Allura Markow placed 35th overall for second in the 12-under age group with 21:22. Jalina Lindstrom placed 39th for second in the 13-15 age group with Emeline Myung third in the same age group. Nine-year-old Katie Hornung was third in the competitive 12-under division with a PR of 22:41 and Ria Perencsik fourth in the same division.

Former Rialto High School star Daniel Cuevas ran 33:50 for first in the 10k race, almost two minutes ahead of former UC Santa Barbara runner Michael Wysocki (son of Roadrunner great Ruth Wysocki). Redlands East Valley star Samantha Aguilar was fourth overall in the 10k to be the first female, nearly three minutes ahead of the second place female with 40:24. Coach Stewart Boden won his age group with 49:35 running 10 minutes faster than his goal for the day.
